BURCH, George Bosworth

BURCH, George Bosworth. Hartford, Conn. 12.7.1902 — 4.6.1973. U.S. Philosopher interested in Indian Thought. Son of George Washington B. and Mary Bosworth, educated at Harvard (A.B. 1923, A.M. 1927, Ph.D. 1939). Graduate studies at universities of Geneva (1933-34) and Paris (1935-36). In 1942-46 Professor of philosophy and psychology at the College of Idaho, from 1946 until his retirement in 1967 Fletcher Professor of Philosophy at Tufts University in Medford, Mass. In the early 1950s he became interested in Indian thought. In 1953-54 Visiting Professor at Amalner, India, 1961 at Visvabharati University. In 1933 married Betty Brand, three children.

Publications: Wrote about contemporary Vedanta, also much on western philosophy.
