DUTENS, Alfred. 13.3.1841 — 8.7.1917. French Linguist. Son of Louis Dutens and Marie Amélie Hecquet d’Orval. Ph.D. 1883 Paris. According to Meillet his dissertation was good, but attracted so little attention that the depressed author never published much more, although remained member of the Société de linguistique. Married. A.I.B.L. is still (2008) giving a Prix Alfred Dutens.
