HANSEN, Olaf. St.Petersburg 11.4.1902 — Kiel 10.1.1969. German Indo-Iranian, especially Middle Iranian Scholar. Professor in Berlin (West). Son of G.O.A.H., librarian of Imperial Academy, and Marie Rödder. In 1917 the family escaped to Baltic states and 1919 to Hamburg. Studied at Hamburg. Ph.D. there 1927 under Reichelt. In 1933-34 in India. In 1934-37 worked in Berlin Papyrus collection. Habilitation 1936 Hamburg. From 1937 PD at Berlin, collaborated with Nazis and joined NSDAP in 1940. He served in army and became war prisoner. From 1945 PD at Leipzig (or Jena?). In 1947-49 wiss. Mitarbeiter of Deutsche A.W. in Berlin. In 1950-68 Professor of Indo-Iranian at F.U. Berlin (ord. 1963). In 1968-69 visiting Professor at Kiel. At F.U.B. he taught Sanskrit and even Hindī, but was always more interested in Iranian.
