PHILIPSBORN, Alexander. Berlin 21.11.1882 — London 22.3.1964. German Lawyer and Historian of Medicine. Son of Nestor Ph. and Lea Baswitz. Dr.iuris. worked as advocate, notar and legal adviser to the organization of the German hospitals, but as a Jew was excluded from all juridical work in 1933 and emigrated to Brussels, his wife’s home town. When Belgium was invaded he tried to escape, without success, and lived in Brussels in hiding. After the war one of the leaders of Coref, the organization of German Jewish refugees. After his wife’s death moved to London, where one of his daughters lived. In his Aśoka article he claimed that they cannot be accepted as real hospitals. Married Ella Julie Oberneck, three daughters.
