French Indologist, specialist of Tamil and Hindustani. Son of Prosper BdeF and Françoise Delage, member of a family coming from Marseille and belonging to nobility from the early 18th century. Diplome of E.L.O.V. 1891. In 1901 pensionnaire of E.F.E.O., went to South India, but remained too long there and his contract expired in 1902. He was wealthy and lived without position. Married 1895 Geneviève de Sivery, one daughter, and 1921 Lucie Hélène Faillet, four children.
