BLAKESLEY, Thomas Holmes. Ware, Hertsfordshire 8.7.1847 — London 13.2.1929. British Civil Engineer and Scientist also interested in Archaeology. Son of Rev. Joseph Williams Bl. (1808-85), Dean of Lincoln, and Margaret Wilson Holmes. Educated in Smithfield, studies at King’s College, Cambridge, graduated in 1869 (B.A.). From 1872 Government Engineer at Public Works Department in Ceylon, designed irrigation works until 1875. Later he worked as an engineer in Central Europe, and from 1885 to 1904 taught physics and mathematics at Royal Naval College in Greenwitch. Married 1885 Edith Tatham, no children. “Widely known for his research in Physics”.
