COX, Edward Thomas. London 9.7.1807 — Chicacole (Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh) 28.8.1854. British Colonial Officer in India. Son of John Lewis Cox of Hamcommon, Surrey, and Jane Caroline Axtell. Cadet 1827, then Captain in Madras Army (1847) and Major.Married 1834 Sophia Gordon Hands, four sons and three daughters. In his book he teaches the dialect he calls “Sepoys Hindustani”. He wrote it during a sick leave in England.
