PAWSEY, Charles Ridley. Surbiton, Surrey 14.7.1894 — Badingham, Woodbridge, Suffolk 21.7.1972. Sir. British Civil Servant in India. Son of Charles James Pawsey, a paymaster of Royal Navy, and Ellen Edith Offord. After Berkhamsted School studies at Wadham College, Oxford (B.A.). Served as officer in WW I and joined I.C.S. 1919. From 1922 Deputy Commissioner in Kohima (Naga Hills), finally District Commissioner until 1947. In 1942-44 he had important role in defending Kohima against Japanese. Back in England lived in Badingham. C.S.I. Knighted 1947. Married 1954 Rita Halliday, the widow of Hugh Ingle Halliday. Thus Wikipedia, but suffolkartists.co.uk on Pawsey gives her name as Alejandra Georgiana Darrell (née Adamson, 1896–1981)..
