GRANT, Robert. Bengal, India 1779 (Wikitree 15.1.1780) — Dapuri, Maharashtra 9.7.1838. Sir. British (Scottish) Civil Servant in India. Son of —> Charles Grant and Jane Fraser, came to England with the family in 1790. Educated at Magdalen College, Cambridge. M.A. 1804. “Called to the bar at Lincoln’s Inn, 1807. M.P. for various constituencies from 1818 to 1834; advocated Jewish emancipation from civic disabilities. Judge Advocate General, 1832. Governor of Bombay from March 17, 1835, knighted in 1834; and G.C.H. Died of apoplexy.” Gave his name to the Grant Medical College in Bombay. Married 1829 Margaret Davidson, father of —> Charles Grant and three other children.
