HARRIS, Charles. Albion, Illinois 19.11.1859 — 1943. U.S. Germanist, also Student of Indology. Son of George and Catherine Smith Harris. In 1875-79 studies at University of Indiana (A.B. 1879) and from 1881 at Leipzig (under Windisch). Ph.D. 1884 Leipzig. Worked as teacher, 1888-93 Professor of German at Oberlin College. From 1893 Professor of German at Western Reserve University in Cleveland, finally retired. Married Mary B. McCalla.
