HILMARSSON, Jörundur Garðar. Reykjavík 15.3.1946 — Reykjavík 13.8. 1992. Icelandic IE Linguist and Tocharian Scholar. Son of a lawyer, educated at classical gymnasium. Studies of Linguistics at Oslo from 1966-77, M.A. 1977. In 1979-81 studied Tocharian at Kiel (W. Winter). Ph.D. 1986 Leiden (under Fr. Kortlandt). In 1973 and 1979-81 studies at Sorbonne. Alexander von Humboldt scholarship holder in Germany 1979-81 (in Kiel) and 1988. Taught at the Department of General Linguistics, University of Iceland, Reykjavík. Died of cancer. Married.
