MINARD, Armand. Paris 30.12.1906 — Paris 17.4.1998. French Indologist. Professor in Lyon and Paris. Son of a modest trader, educated at Lycée Chaptal. In 1927-32 studies at École Normale Supérieure and É.P.H.É. (Meillet, Lévi, Bloch, Renou). Licence ès Lettres 1928, agrégation de grammaire 1930. Ph.D. 1937 Paris. From 1933 chargé de cours de sanscrit et grammaire comparée at Lyon, from 1936 maître de conferences and from 1941 Professor at Lyon, until 1957. From 1952 also directeur d’études at É.P.H.É., Sciences historiques et philologiques, in Paris (succeeding J. Bloch), retired in 1976. From 1957 Professeur de langue et littérature indiennes at Sorbonne (then Paris III Sorbonne Nouvelle). Retired in 1977. Married, two sons and two daughters.

Minard was a meticulous and careful philologist, specialist of Vedic prose, but published very little. Among his students were L. Bansat-Boudon, Cl. Jacques, J. Monchanin and St. Sandahl.
