PORZEZIŃSKI, Wiktor Jan (Russian Viktor Karlovič Požezinskij). Moršansk or Temnikovo, Russia 23.7.(4.8.)1870 — Warsaw 12.4.1929. Polish (or Russian in Poland) Baltic and IE Linguist. Studies at Moscow under Fortunatov. From 1895 or 1901 taught at Moscow, in 1903-21 as Professor of IE linguistics. Professor of IE Linguistics at Warsaw in 1922-23 (or to 1929) and at Lublin 1923-29. Among his students in Moscow were Trubetzkoy and R. Jakobson. Taught Sanskrit in Warsaw in the 1920s.
