BOLTZ, August. Breslau 26.9.1819 — Darmstadt 1.5.1907. German Literate, Language Teacher and Translator interested in Sanskrit. Gymnasium in Breslau, then worked in trade and studied languages. As tutor of an aristocrat St.Petersburg family travelled around Europe (1839-42), then teacher in St.Petersburg. Ph.D. 1845 Jena. In 1852-64 taught Russian, Spanish, and English at the Military Academy in Berlin, from 1862 as a Professor. Resigned because of health problems and lived as private scholar in Frankfurt a.M. (1864-68), Wiesbaden (1868-75), Bonn (1878/79) and Freiburg i.Br. (1885-87), last years from 1889 in Darmstadt. Married Clara Schulte. A dilettant, whose studies were scarcely noted.
