BORKOWSKI, Aleksander (Leszek) Ferdynand Wincenty Dunin (Dunin B., Al.). Gródek, Austro-Hungarian Empire (now Horodok in Ukraine) 11.1.1811 — Lemberg (Lwów, now L’viv) 30.11.1896. Count. Polish Politician, Poet and Author, who translated Bhartṛhari’s poems into Polish. Son of Franciszek Antoni Dunin Borkowski (1773–1860) and Franciszka Anna Dzieduszycka, brother of poet Jozef Dunin Borkowski (1809–1843). From 1827 studies of philology at Czernowicz, then at Lemberg (Lwów/L’viv), also Sanskrit under von Bohlen at Königsberg. In 1831 active in freedom movement. Later he became member of Galician Landtag and of Reichsrat. Lived in Lemberg (Lwów). Married Severyna Justyna Michalina Cieleckich (1817–1895), one daughter and one son.
