HAYDEN, Henry Hubert. Londonderry 25.7.1869 — Finsteraarhorn, Switzerland 12.8.1923 (official date 28.8. when his body was found). Sir. British Geologist in India. Educated at Hilton College in South Africa. Studies of geology at Trinity College in Dublin (B.A.). In 1895 joined the Geological Survey of India. Conducted studies in the Himalayas, in 1907-08 in Afghanistan. In 1910-20 Director of the Geological Survey. In 1917-18 President of A.S.B. Retired 1922 and returned to England. C.I.E. 1911, knighted 1920. Hon. Dr.Sc. 1913 Univ. of Calcutta. Died in a rock slide during a climbing expedition.
