MODAVE, Louis Laurent de Féderbe, Count de (Fayd’herbe de Maudave). Château du Fayet, Barraux (Isère) 22.6.1725 — Masulipatam 22.12.1777. French Nobleman, Officer and Traveller. Son of colonel Jean Charles Nicolas F., C. de M. and Marie Thérèse Maniquet du Fayet. As young officer participated in many European wars. Came to India as adjutant of de Lally in 1747. He participated in military campaign as colonel and in 1758 married Marie Nicole Porcher des Oulches, daughter of the Governor of Karikal. Returned to France in 1759. In 1762-64 again in India, then in Île-de-France (Mauritius), planning the reestablishment of the French base of Fort Dauphin (Tôlanaro) in Madagascar. He led an unsuccesful expedition there in 1770-71. From 1773 again in service of the French Company in India, now also visited North India including Agra and Delhi. Died of fever. He had children from his marriage.
