TANNER, Joseph Robson. Frome, Somerset 28.7.1860 — Aldeburgh, Suffolk 16.1.1931. British Historian. The eldest son of Joseph Tanner, an accountant, and Fanny Robson. Educated at Mill Hill School, London, studies at Cambridge (St.John’s College, fellow 1883). Lecturer in History at St.John’s 1883-1921, also Lecturer in Indian History at Cambridge, 1885-92, for I.C.S. students. In 1895-1900 Assistant Tutor, 1900-12 Tutor and 1900-21 Tutorial Bursar at St.John’s. Married 1888 Charlotte Maria Larkman (d. 1946).
