ZILBERMAN, David B. (David Beniaminovič Zil’berman). Odessa (now Ukraina) 25.5.1938 — Boston 25.6.1977. Russian (Ukrainian?) Philosopher and Sociologist in the U.S.A. Son of Benjamin Z., an engineer-economist, and Riva Timaner, a physician. Studied engineering and meteorology in Odessa. In 1962-66 meteorogist of Ašhabad Airport in Turkmenistan. In 1962 befriended with —> Smirnov and started the study of Indology (logic, yoga and ritual). Back in Odessa 1966 worked both at university (philosophy) and Meteorological Institute. From 1968 PG studies of Sociology at Moscow. Also collaborated with Pjatigorskij. Kand. 1972. Emigrated with his family in 1973 and became Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Anthropology at Hunter College in New York. From 1974 Post-doctoral Fellow with the Committee on South Asian Studies, University of Chicago and from 1976 taught at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA. Died in a car-bicycle collision. Married with Elena Mišnik, two daughters.

Publications: In Russian many translations from Sanskrit, articles on Indian philosophy and sociology.
