OLLONE, Henri Marie Gustave, vicomte d’. Besançon 4.9.1868 — Lorp-Sentaraille (Ariège) 7.10.1945. French Officer and Explorer. General. Son of Ernest François d’Ollone (1833–1896) and Marie Adelaide d’Amandre. Military education at Saint-Cyr, in 1895 participted in Madagascar campaign. Then served in West Africa (defining the border of Côte d’Ivoire and Liberia). In 1906-09 led an expedition to China. Participated in WW I (battle of Verdun). Brigade General 1919, grand officer of Légion d’honneur 1933. He covered more than 8000 km and obtained important geographical, archaeological, ethnographic, and linguistic results, especially in Yunnan, Sichuan, Gansu, Ningxia and Mongolia.
