KUCKERTZ, Josef

KUCKERTZ, Josef. Würselen near Aachen 24.11.1930 — Berlin 25.3.1996. German Ethno-Musicologist interested in Indian Music. Passed Rheinische Musikschule and studied in 1952-56 musicology, Germanic philology and ancient history at Köln. Ph.D. 1962 Köln. In 1963-67 Assistant at Institute of Musicology, University of Köln, 1967 habilitation there. From 1967 PD and from 1970 Professor of Musicology (Ethnomusicology) at Köln Universität. In 1978-80 also taught at Göttingen. From 1980 Professor at F.U.B. in Berlin (West). Died little before retirement. Hon.dr. Pontificio Instituto di Musica Sacra, Rome. Conducted fieldwork in many countries, including seven times in India in 1967-76.

Publications: Diss. Gestaltvariation in den von Bartók gesammelten rumänischen Colinden. 178 p. Kölner Beiträge zur Musikforschung 23. Regensburg 1963; other writings on European and Near Eastern music..
