BAADER, Theodor

BAADER, Theodor Ludger Josef Anna Maria. Münster 25.4.1888 — Hiltrup, Westfalen 16.4.1959. German Linguist. Son of Franz Xaver Wilhelm Baader, a book printer, and Clara Jäger. School in Münster, studies of German and history from 1910 at Münster. Ph.D. 1913 Münster (diss. on local dialect). In 1914-17 in army, 1917-19 war prisoner in France. Then further studies at Bern, now also Sanskrit and IE. PD 1920 Münster, in Germanische Philologie. From 1923 Professor of Germanic and Celtic Languages at Nijmegen, taught there until 1944. A militant catholic and Nazi sympathizer he fled before the allied forces to Münster, where he continued research, but without any academic position. Married 1921 Johanna Maria Hellmann.
