CAMPBELL, William. Old Kilpatrick, Dumbartonshire 1799 — Islington, London 14.12.1878. Rev. British (Scottish) Missionary in India. Joined London Missionary Society and ordained priest 1823 in Liverpool. From c. 1823-35 worked twelve years in India (Bangalore), then returned to the U.K. because of his wife’s poor health. From 1841 worked in Croydon. Married 1823 Anne Keat. In his book he opposed to the use of English and defended local languages.
