SELKIRK, James. 1??? — 1880. Rev. British  Missionary in Sri Lanka. In 1826-39 missionary of Church Missionary Society in Ceylon. Back in the U.K. Curate of Middleton Tyas, Yorkshire (1839/48). Married, his wife died in 1876. In his book shows interest in the culture, customs, and traditions of the island.
Publications: A Romanized Singhalese and English Vocabulary: with a large collection of common phrases and short sentences; and some specimens of translations. 4+116 p. 1838.
Recollections of Ceylon, after a residence of nearly 13 years. 15+544 p. L. 1844.
– Participated in the Sinhalese Bible translations; religious writings.
