ANDREWS, Frederick Henry (Fred). 1866 — 1957. British Educator and Scholar in India, a lay Art Historian, noted for his catalogues of M. A. Stein’s Central Asian finds. Son of publisher Arliss Andrews. He studied stained glass and joined the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society and Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings. He became friend of Rudyard Kipling and from 1890 worked as vice-principal of the Mayo School of Arts in Lahore under Lockwood Kipling. InLahore he also met A. Stein. From 1914 principal of a technical college in Srinagar. Married Nora.
