GANIVET Y GARCÍA, Ángel

GANIVET Y GARCÍA, Ángel. Granada 13.12.1865 — Riga, Latvia (then part of Russia) 29.11.1898. Spanish Writer and Diplomat. Son of mill-owner Francisco Ganivet Morcillo (d. 1875) and Angeles García Siles. In 1880-88 studied law and philosophy at Granada and 1888-89 at Madrid. Ph.D. and licence in law 1890 Granada. In 1892 entered diplomatic career: vice-consul in Antwerp, then 1896 consul in Helsinki and 1898 in Riga. Disillusioned in love and suffering of syphilis, he drowned himself in the Daugava River. He was a friend of Unamuno.
