SCHERZL, Richard (Ričard Ivanovič Šercl)

SCHERZL, Richard (Ričard Ivanovič Šercl’). Prague 19.9.1850 — after 1914. Czech Scholar in Ukraina. Younger brother of —> V. I. Scherzl. School and 1868-72 studies of classical philology at Prague, in 1872-74 Slavic at St.Petersburg. Worked as teacher moving to Har’kov (Harkiv), where his brother was living. Completed his degree of magistr in 1880 at Har’kov university. From 1882 Docent of Latin at Harkov, 1890 eo. Professor, 1894 ord. From 1886 also director of numismatic cabinet. He was traveling, when the WW I began, in the end 1914 he ws in Bucharest, but then disappears.

Publications: Diss. Razbor mestnogo i datel’nogo v klassičeskih jazykah sravnitel’no s sanskritskim. 2+126 p. Harkiv 1880.

Opisanie medalej i monet, hranjaščihsja v Numismatičeskom kabinete Har’kovskogo universiteta. 3. Vostočnye monety. Harkov 1912.
