TRAPP, Valentin. Munich 19.3.1908 — Munich 30.5.1993. German Student of Indology. Son of an insurance official, matriculated from a Munich gymnasium in 1927. In 1927-28 studied at Munich i.al. Sanskrit under Oertel, Scherman and Wüst. In 1928-29 taught German in India, also studying at Santiniketan Sanskrit (V. Bhattacharya, K. M. Sen, et al.), Bengali, and Arabic (Gy. Germanus) and in 1930 five months at Banaras Hindu University. Back in Munich in 1930 continued studies there. Ph.D. 1933 Munich. Married.

Publications: Die ersten fünf Āhnikas des Mahābhāṣyam ins Deutsche übersetzt und erklärt. 6+380 p. Lp. 1933.

Statistisches Wörterbuch: Englisch-Deutsch. 130 p. 1951 (by the same V.T.?).
