LOWE, John Robert Alexander Shakespear. Calcutta 19.2.1825 — Middlesex 15.1.1906. British Colonial Officer in India. Lieutenant-Colonel (1872). Son of John L. and Harriet Shakespear. In 1865 he was Deputy Assistant Commissary in Benares, but no further details about his career are found. Married 1848 Eliza Price Hobday (d. 1855), two daughters and one son. According to 1881 census (in findmypas.co.uk) John R. A. S. Lowe was living in Thanet, Kent, with his second wife Mary. As he was retired Colonel of Bengal army he must be our J. R. A. Lowe. According to geni.com he had two daughters and two sons with first and two daughters with second wife.
