BALAKIN, Andrej Andreevič. Orel (Oryol) 13.8.1883 — after 1926. Russian Oriental Scholar. Son of Andrej Il’ič Balakin, an army surgeon in reserve, and his wife Ekaterina Andreevna. Matriculated 1904 from Orlov classical gymnasium. Studied Oriental languages (especially Arabic under Krymskij) at St. Petersburg.
