MARSTRANDER, Carl Johan Sverdrup. Kristiansand 26.11.1883 — Oslo 23.12.1965. Norwegian Linguist and Celtologist. Professor in Oslo. Son of Frederick Petersen Marstrander and Kristiane Henriette Sørensdatter Brodtkorp (Sverdrup). Matriculated 1902 from Kristiansand, 1902-03 on the army. In 1903-07 studied Classics, IE and Celtic languages at Oslo (S. Bugge, A. Torp). In 1909-13 Professor of Celtic and comparative linguistics at School of Irish Learning in Dublin. From 1913 eo. Professor of Celtic philology at Oslo, emeritus 1953. During German occupation in WW II several times jailed.
