ALLEN, David Oliver. Barre, MA 14.9.1799 — Lowell, MA 19.7.1863. Rev. U.S. Presbyterian Missionary in India. Son of Moses Allen and his wife Mahitable Oliver, grew up in Princeton. After graduating from Amherst College in 1823 studied at Andover Theological Seminary, ordained 1827. In 1827-53 worked in Bombay for American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions. From 1844 editorial superintendent of American Mission Press in Bombay. Back in the U.S.A. 1853, in 1857-60 minister in Westford and Wenham, Mass. D.D. Married 1827 Myra Wood (1800–1831), one son, then 1838 Orphan Graves (d. 1842), 1843 Azuba Caroline Condict (1806–1844) and finally 1858 Mary S. Foster (1813–1867).
