GARTHWAITE, James Grant Liston. 1833 — Glenelg, South Australia 21.12.1918. British Missionary in India. B.A. London. Worked for Basel Mission in Kerala, arrived at Bangalore 1853. In 1868 he was Inspector of schools in Malabar and Canara. Retired 1888. Widowed he visited his relatives in South Australia in 1895 and 1898 and settled permanently there in 1900. Married 1859 Mary Lanauze (d. 1885).
