GRAETER, Albert

GRAETER, Albert. Boston 26.9.1835 — Basel 1909. Rev. U.S. Missionary in India. Son of John Henry Francis Gr. (born in Württemberg) and Elizabeth Mason Goodwin. Went to India as a member of Basel Mission of Mangalore. In 1865-70 schoolteacher in Coorg. Retired, he worked 1870-1908 as teacher of English in Basel. Married 1871 Eliza Campiche, four sons. The 1903 diss. on the Copepods of Basel region is by his son.

His younger brother was Rev. John (Johann) Benignus Gräter (Boston 12.5.1838 — Esslingen, Württemberg ?.2.1895), who also belonged to Basel Mission. Married 1867 Matilda Frommel (d. 1872) and 1874 Bertha Schuele, two sons, two daughters.
