HENDERSON, John Robertson. Melrose, Roxburghshire 21.5.1863 — Edinburgh 26.10.1925. British (Scottish) Zoologist in India. Son of Edward Henderson (1825–1894), a revenue official, and Jessie Louttit Robertson. Educated at Dulwich College and Dollar Academy. Studies of medicine at Edinburgh (MB ChB 1884), became interested in marine zoology and began fieldwork. In 1885 to India. In 1892-1911 Professor of Zoology at Madras Christian College and 1908-20 Superintendent of Government Museum in Madras. Returned 1919 to Scotland. C.I.E. 1918. Fellow of Royal Society of Edinburgh 1923. Married 1888 Alice Roberta Sinclair (1868–1915), one daughter and one son, and 1921 Elizabeth Beatrice Adie (1882–1936), no children. He was also a lay historian and numismatist.
