HILL, Samuel Alexander. Ballyboley near Belfast 10.10.1851 — Allahabad 23.9.1890. British Teacher and Meteorologist in India. Son of farmer John Beggs Hill (1819–1897) and Elizabeth Clements, an Anglo-Irish family. Educated at Ballyeaston School and from 1868 at Training School in Dublin. From 1869 teacher in Lisbarn. From 1871 studies at Royal School of Mines and London University (B.Sc. 1874). From 1876 Professor of Physical Science at Muir Central College in Allahabad. In 1887 Fellow of the new Allahabad University. He was an enthusiastic amateur photographer and a friend of R. Kipling. Married 1884 Edmonia (Edna) Taylor, from the U.S.A.
