LOVENTHAL (Løventhal), Carl Eduard

LOVENTHAL (Løventhal), Carl Eduard. Aalborg 18.7.1841 — Fredriksberg 14.7.1917. Rev. Danish Missionary in India. Son of Eduard L. and Margit Allen, grew up in Copenhagen. Dr.phil. Worked as a teacher, but after religious awakening turned to mission. Left for India in 1872 and worked many years in Vellore. In 1914 an illness forced him back to Denmark. Married 1874 Andrea Juliane Andersen (1839–1923), children. His large collection (more than 10,000 pieces) of South Indian coins is kept in Copenhagen. Also collected art and ethnographic material.
