ENDLE, Sidney. Totney, Devon 1840? — 1907. Rev. British Missionary in India. Son of a vicar, educated at Totnes Grammar School and at St. Augustine’s College in Canterbury. First arrived at Tezpur in Assam in 1864 and worked 43 years as Anglican missionary and chaplain among Kachari Baras (Bodos). Worked under Hesselmyer and after his death took charge of the Kachari Mission with headquarters at Tezpur. In his small grammar he included some Bara folktales and was thus the first to use a Bara language for writing.
