PLUNKETT, George Tindall. Islington, London 8.8.1842 — Surrey 2.5.1922. British Colonial Officer in India. Lieutenant-Colonel. Son of Valentine William Plunkett (1803–1888) and Marianne Tindall, educated at Woolwich Military Academy, entered army 1862. Colonel 1889, retired 1894. Director of Science and Art Institutions, Dublin in 1895-1907. C.B. 1901. Married 1865 Emily Marian Richardson, two sons and one daughter.

Publications: The Conversation Manual in English, Hindustani, Persian and Pashtū, with summaries of the grammars of these languages and a vocabulary of nearly 1500 words, for the use of engineer officers and others on the North-West Frontier and in India. 134 p. L. 1875, 2nd rev. ed. L. 1893.

– Vocabulary English-Arabic, compiled for the use of English travellers and residents in Egypt. L. 1886, rev. 2nd ed. 15+77 p. L. 1903.
