HILL, William Douglas Penneck. Kensington, London 1884 — Poole, Dorset 9.4.1962. British Indologist. Son of Arthur James Hill and Fanny Catheside Hingston. M.A. Worked as Assistant Master at Eton and as Principal of Jay Narayan’s High School Benares. Back in the U.K. Scholar of King’s College, Cambridge. His much praised Gītā is a scholarly translation, with hard criticism of what he calls “Theosophical versions”.
