MITCHELL, Alfred Norval. 18.12.1906 — 1988. British Civil Servant in India. Joined I.C.S. in 1930, 1934 transferred to Political Service. Served in India until 1947, as Administrator of Bastar State, Political Agent in Orissa States Agency and finally Chie Secretary of North-West Frontier Province. After a time in Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) Secretary and Registrar of St.Andrews University, retired 1972. O.B.E. 1943. Married Mary Elizabeth Couch (1907–1990), at least one son.
Publications: A Grammar of Maria Gondi, as Spoken by the Bison Horn or Dandami Marias of Bastar State. 4+69 p. Jagdalpur 1942.
