NAU, François-Nicolas. Thil (Meurthe-et-Moselle) 13.5.1864 — Paris 2.9.1931. French Catholic Priest and Syrologist. Son of the elder François-Nicolas Nau and Marguerite Longueville. After primary school in Longwy attended petit séminaire of Notre-Dame des Champs in Paris, then from 1882 Grand Séminaire de Saint-Sulpice. Baccalaureate in theology and canonic law 1887, now also ordained priest. Studied mathematics and science, Ph.D. 1897. From 1889 also studied Syriac, 1895 diplom of É.P.H.É. From 1890 taught mathematics and astronomy at Institut catholique de Paris. Together with René Graffin (1858–1941) he founded the series Patrologia Orientalis in 1899 and edited several volumes in it. From 1927 taught Syriac at É.P.H.É.
