KRAUSE, Wilhelm

KRAUSE, Wilhelm. Freiburg i.Br. 6.12.1910 — Vienna 12.5.1976. German Classical Philologist in Austria. After school in Freiburg and Feldkirch studied from 1929 at Vienna classical, IE and Iranian philology and Indology. From 1932 worked as Librarian at Idg. Institut. Ph.D. 1936 Vienna. In 1937 he passed Lehramtsprüfung in Latin and Greek and started teaching at Elisabeth-Gymnasium, but in 1938 lost both positions. After the war taught at Bundesgymnasium Wien IX, where he also gave a voluntary course of Sanskrit. In 1958 habilitation at Graz, taught classical philology as PD from 1960. From 1960 also Lehrbefugnis as Lektor (Lecturer) for Sanskrit. From 1968 eo. Professor at Graz and in May 1976 nominated ord., but died a few days after.
