WACHSBERGER, Arthur. Troppau, Silesia (now Opava in Czechia) 7.5.1891 — Haifa 21/22.6.1943. Austrian Art Historian and Architect. Son of a Jewish merchant, Hermann Wachsberger (1857–1932?) and his wife Augusta. After school in Troppau studied at Vienna. Ph.D. 1914 Vienna (under Strzygowski). Moved to Köln, worked as Assistant in Museum für Ostasiatische Kunst. Served in WW I as officer in Austrian army. After war worked as interior designer in funiture firm Lehmann (of his father-in-law) in Köln, active in local art circles. In 1933 emigrated with his family to Palestine. Still in 1934 he founded in Tel Aviv the firma The Cultivated Home. Died of a heart attack. Married 1915 Anna Maria Lehmann (b. 1889), one son and one daughter.
