ORTERER, Georg (1901 Ritter von O.). Wörth bei Erding, Upper Bavaria 30.10.1849 — Munich 5.10.1916. German Student of Indo-Iranian, then Teacher and Bavarian Politician. Son of Philipp Orterer (d. 1862), an elementary school teacher, and Therese Bartel. Educated in Erding, Scheyern and 1864-68 in Freising. From 1868 studies of Classics and IE at Munich (Ph.D. 1873), then also at Leipzig. Worked as teacher in Schweinfurt, Munich and Freising then school director in Eichstätt (1892-1902) and Munich. Active in politics as conservative, from 1883 member of Bavarian Landtag. A Roman Catholic. Married 1876 Rosalia Entres (1853–1913), seven daughters and one son, and 1915 Hildegard Roth (née Neisinger, 1864–1934).
