WISE, James

WISE, James Fawns Norton. 1835 — 1886. British (Scottish) Physician in India. Son of —> Th. A. Wise (1802–1889) and Emily Isabella Disney (1812–1839). M.D. From the early 1860s worked ten years in Dacca (Dhaka), then retired and returned to the U.K. In India he copied inscriptions, collected folklore and conducted ethnographic studies.
