From 1939 studied Semitics at Uppsala (Nyberg): fil.kand. (M.A.) 1950, fil.lic. 1951, Ph.D. 1955. In 1949-55 teacher of Hebrew at Uppsala, PD 1955. In 1964-88 Professor of Semitic Languages at Uppsala, emeritus. Married 1951 Margareta Thorelli.
