AUROUSSEAU, Léonard Eugène. Cannes 12.7.1888 — Yerres, Île-de-France 24.1.1929. French Sinologist. Son of Paul Jules Aurousseau and Anaïs Stéphanie Forestier. Educated at colleges of Montluçon (Allier) and Montbéliard (Doubs), then at Lycée Henri-IV in Paris. Studied Chinese at É.P.H.É. (Chavannes) and É.L.O.V. In 1909 to Indochina as soldier, also allowed to work at É.F.E.O., 1911 its member and travel to China. From 1915 taught history and archaeology and, after 1916-20 in army, Chinese at É.F.E.O., 1926-29 its Director (after Finot). In 1921 visited Japan, Korea and China. In the end of 1928 returned to France seriously ill. Married 1914 Gabrielle-Jeanne-Marie Charles.
Publications: Mainly wrote on Indochinese (Sino-Annamite) history and archaeology.
