MATZEL, Klaus Hellmuth. Borsdorf near Leipzig 11.10.1923 — 1992. German Linguist, Germanic and Sinhalese Scholar. Professor in Regensburg. Son of Hellmuth Paul M. and Margaretha Werner. Educated in Hamburg. Ph.D. 1956 F.U.B. Taught German in Sri Lanka and thus learned Sinhalese. In 1968 habilitation at Würzburg, but soon (still 1968) ord. Professor at Regensburg University. In the 1980s he probably became seriously ill: according to D.G.K. 1992 (Stand 1989) he was living as “entpfl. ord. Professor”, and in 1995 a colleague supposed him dead for ten years or so.
