PAULY, Else Margarete (née Christiansen). Holbæk 23.2.1918 — 26.8.2000. Danish Indologist. Daughter of Axel William Christiansen (1888-1964), a bookholder, and Valborg Vilhelmine Wael (1879-1949). From 1938 studied English, French, Classics and Comparative Linguistics at Copenhagen. With marriage and children interrupted studies, but in 1949 continued, now with Sanskrit and Indology. In 1951-55 Secretary of Poul Tuxen (who was also the editor of the C.P.D.). In 1973-79 she was Lecturer (ekstern lektor) in Pāli at Copenhagen, but her main work was in the C.P.D. Married 1945 Johannes Pauly (d. 1997), a geologist, three children.
